Best hangouts for students in Prague

Prague is full of students. Because of that, the city has loads of spots where students like to hang out, places with a lively vibe, where you’ll almost always bump into people your age. So, which are the must-see venues and study spots?

Greenery in the middle of a concrete jungle

Yes, even in the capital of Czechia you can just chill on the grass with a blanket, guitar, a book, or some snacks. The go-to is Stromovka, Prague’s biggest park. There’s a pond with a little raft, a newly reopened planetarium, and even picnic areas with grills.

Another student classic is Letná—famous for its giant red metronome and epic views of the entire city. Other great parks are Grébovka, Parukářka, or Hvězda, where you’ll find a hunting lodge as well as places to chill.

You can find greenery even in the historical centre of the city. Near Wenceslas Square you’ll find the Franciscan Garden, accessible through the Světozor passage.

And don’t forget about the islands! Střelecký Island, offers spectacular views of Charles Bridge, tons of nutrias (yep, the real life mammals), and often hosts concerts and festivals. And if you’re into swimming, Štvanice Island between Karlín and Holešovice has a public pool.

Study spots

If you’re looking for a place to study, Prague has an endless number of cozy cafés, pastry shops, and tearooms perfect for long cramming sessions. There are also plenty of spaces where you can study for free.

Municipal Library of Prague near Staroměstská is a lifesaver. You don’t even need a library card—just grab a seat and get working. Close by is the Charles University Faculty of Arts, where even students from other faculties can take refuge. In Dejvice you’ll find the Czech National Library of Technology. Registered students get unlimited access, plus there’s a cool café inside.

And for something a bit different, check out CAMP (Center for Architecture and Metropolitan Planning) near Palackého Square. It’s a stylish space where you can both relax and study.

Cafés

Prague is a paradise for café lovers —you’ll find one almost on every corner. Some of the most student-friendly ones are Cafedu (open 24/7, with a study room), SmetanaQ with its Vltava River views, and Café NONA near the National Theatre.

A hidden gem is the Scout Institute, right next to the Old Town Hall. It’s super popular amongst students—you can grab a coffee, but also attend a debate, or a cultural event. And don’t worry, it’s not just for scouts.

Bars & nightlife

For drinks, Café NONA doubles as a bar. Alternately you can head to Nebe. It has two branches—one on Wenceslas Square and another near Náměstí republiky —and it doubles as a music club, so you can dance the night away.

If you’re into something more alternative, try Vzorkovna on Národní. It’s a massive underground maze of music halls and bars all connected by tunnels. A true Prague student experience.
