The best apps (and other tips) for learning Czech

Czech is not the easiest of languages to learn. But anything is possible if you just believe… or rather, in this case, stay consistent and practice regularly. These apps will help you learn the basics, practice pronunciation and master grammar.

Duolingo

The best app for beginners. Duolingo will teach you basic Czech vocabulary and grammar, all in a fun game-like way while you collect badges and other rewards.

Pimsleur

For a more in-depth on-line learning tool, try Pimsleur. It’s the perfect option for people who prefer to learn by ear. The paid course offers features such as flashcards or quizzes.

CzechClass101

This app can be home both on your phone and computer. CzechClass101 offers a variety of free features such as a list of 100 most useful Czech words. To see if you like the app you can sign up for a seven-day free trial.

Czech by Nemo

Owners of tech branded with the Apple logo can dip their toes into the Czech language using the app Czech by Nemo. One of its tools allows you to record yourself and compare your pronunciation to that of native speaker.

If you prefer to learn by chatting with other people, try Preply. The app allows you to connect with native Czech speakers to practice your “slovíčka” (a useful Czech word meaning vocabulary).

Slowczech

This online course (and also face to face course – the choice is yours) promises anything but boredom. “Once upon a time…there was a group of teachers who joined forces to fight a horrible monster. A monster of boring language lessons!” reads the tagline.  Through Slowczech courses you can connect with real life tutors to start learning Czech or practice your skills. Slowchzech also offers group lessons.

AI

Nowadays, no article discussing technology can be complete without the mention of AI. You can utilize tools such as chatGPT, for translating pieces of text or finetuning your messages to your Czech friends.
