Study at MENDELUMendel University in Brno (abbreviated to MENDELU) is a public institution with a long tradition of excellence in teaching and research that has driven new ways of thinking since 1919 and proudly bears the name of J. G. Mendel, the founder of modern genetics. But why exactly should you choose it as your alma mater?

High-quality education that is centred on practical knowledge

Mendel University in Brno owns unique facilities dedicated to science and teaching, which offer our students the opportunity to develop and confront their skills and knowledge.

The facilities include, for example, the Botanical Garden and Arboretum, Training Agricultural Enterprise Žabčice and Training Forest Enterprise Masarykův Les Křtiny.

A recent study also shows our graduates find work easily and stay in their field.

Mendel University offers more than 100 different graduate degree programmes in Czech and English languages. You can study at any of our five faculties and one institute.

Faculty of AgriSciences  – e.g. General Agriculture, Chemistry, Ecology and Environmental Protection

Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology – e.g. European Forestry, Furniture Technology, Forest Protection and Game keeping

Faculty of Business and Economics – e.g. Economics and Management, Open Informatics, System Engineering and Informatics

Faculty of Horticulture – e.g. European Horticulture, Horticulture Science

Faculty of Regional Development and International Studies  – e.g. Regional Development and International Territorial Studies

Institute of Lifelong Learning – e.g. Technical Expertise and Expert Engineering, Vocational Subjects Teaching (only in Czech)

As a student of one faculty, you can also choose to study subjects from the other faculties as an optional course. That allows you to branch out of your field and broaden your horizons.

Our campus

Everything you could need is on or around the university campus. It’s located in the central part of Brno and includes the above mentioned Botanical Garden and Arboretum accessible to all our students.

Living in Brno

Brno is a lively student city that offers you all the advantages of living in a city without the constant busyness and rush of capital. It is the second-largest city in the Czech Republic, is consistently being voted among the best student cities and has a perfect location in the heart of Europe to visit other European cities. It takes just two hours by bus to Vienna (Austria) and Bratislava (Slovakia) and four hours by car to Budapest (Hungary), Dresden (Germany), and Wroclaw (Poland).

A large community of international students

There are over 8,300 students at the university, including 5,500 undergraduates and 2,800 postgraduates. And almost 20% of all our students at MENDELU are from abroad.

Focus on sustainability

Research topics at MENDELU are often related to sustainability and climate change. They are up to date and often work with universities around the world. Recently there has been an expedition to the rainforest in the area of El Paraiso, and our students took part in research at the island of Socotra.
