The city lies on the confluence of rivers Elba and Orlice and contains many buildings of historical and architectural significance. The city landmarks are the Renaissance White Tower, the Gothic Church of the Holy Spirit, the baroque Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and the Bishop’s Palace. Hradec Kralove has around 92,000 residents, including a large number of college students. The city is home to the University of Hradec Králové and to the medical faculties of the University of Defense and Charles University and to the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Charles University.
