Faculty of Forestry and Wood TechnologyHave you ever dreamed of becoming a modern lumberjack or lumberjane with a university degree? Guess what—you actually can! The Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology belonging to Mendel University in Brno is offering a unique master programme called European Forestry and you can apply.

The programme starts in September 2022 which means you still have lots of time to think it through and send your application. European Forestry is a 2-year long programme for those who finished their bachelor’s. The study language is English with at least B2 expected level and the tuition fee is 65 000 CZK per year while you can apply for various scholarships.

You can look forward to a diverse faculty with international student community and a possibility of progressing to a PhD programme when you finish this one. There aren’t only lectures; students participate in numerous field trips and practical training, use modern laboratories, take part in discussion seminars, develop their own projects and go for excursions.

Practical training is compulsory and takes place in a university-owned forest that covers an area of 10 265 ha. Your studies will focus not only on traditional forestry but also other related topics like ecology, nature conservation and sustainable development. Successful graduates become forest engineers and highly capable experts solving biological, technical, economic and managerial tasks in forestry.

During your studies, you’ll learn about subjects such as soil science and protection, forest biometry and modelling, forest establishment and technology, geographical information systems, forest economics and policy, forest ecosystems in Europe, forest pathology and protection, forest ecology, management and planning, forest products marketing and trade, logging and transport of timber and others.

As for courses you might choose from at your own interest, you can go for biomechanics and tree stability, dendrology of forest tree species, ecophysiology of woody plants, environmental geochemistry, forest botany, game managements, genetics and breeding of forest trees, reading landscape, nature conservation, public relations in forestry, urban forestry and many others.
